The good weather came yet again out for the Lincolnshire Masonic Golfing Association at Ashby Decoy Golf Club for our annual Mixed Pairs Competition on Friday 7th July 2023. This Mixed Pairs competition is held annually for the Sleaford Masonic Trophy, and is a Better Ball Stableford format played off full handicaps. 
Great to see good support for the event with 13 couples taking part which included two guest pairs (guests always welcome) with one lady making up a pair, both from Ashby Decoy. Gerry Saunders, the lady guest, played with Terry Desmond Ward, Terry is a Lincolnshire and a Nottinghamshire Freemason who plays regularly in both Provinces’ competitions.
Scoring was exceptionally high (as to be expected off full handicaps) with only one pair not bettering Par, the rest 9 were forty points plus with the runners up Peter and Ruth Vessey (one of the guest pairs) scoring forty four points and receiving two bottles of wine.
The winning score of 49 points was posted By W Bro John Day and his wife Stephanie. When Stephanie first arrived, she handed the trophy over to W Bro Mick Wright (Secretary) for the presentation, commenting how she had cleaned it and how he had not to mark it with his fingers 🙂 They then played with Mick and partner Diana Humphries, who watched in amazement as they amassed their total score, an incredible team effort as can been seen by the picture of their card which contains 13 three-point scores, 10 to 8 in favour of John.
Mick had great pleasure in handing the trophy to John whilst they received applause. John then made a short speech thanking the club for allowing us to use the course and the meal that had suited the warm and sunny weather. He then moved on to say how he and Stephanie had enjoyed the day and their playing partners’ company and the course good condition, and how he hoped that all who had taken part including the guest would be able to attend the event next year and  that we would hopefully be able to swell the numbers on the back of the successful day we had all enjoyed.
